The Utah Royals FC-AZ Girls Development Academy teams went 10 wins, 1 loss, and 1 tie at the Girls Summer Showcase in Oceanside, California this past week. Teams from across the country in the Girls Development Academy gathered from June 22 - 29 in the U14-U17 age groups playing cross conference games.  The Southwest conference had some of the best matchups.  The strength of the conference prepared all teams for the competition that were drawn during the week.

U-14 Girls

The U14’s went a perfect 3 wins out of 3 games at the Summer Showcase.  This team is a great group of girls who kept everyone on their toes all year round.  The second half of the season saw them come together and start to play some great soccer.  The year, as always, had its ups and downs but the Showcase was further validation for this group on where they started and how they are coming into the league next year!  As much as their skills on the field improved, their singing continued to disappoint!

Defensively the group didn’t give up a goal over the course of the three games.  Credit to both Erin Fitzharris, Taylor Hannah, and the entire back line in keeping a clean sheet!  Paula Capili and Hope Leyba led the group in scoring with two goals to their name while Sophia Navarrette added the game winner on Day 3.

U-15 Girls

The U-15’s finished the week with 2 wins and 1tie at the Summer Showcase to close out their season.  The 2004 DA girls represented the club with fight and persistence all year long.  This group has been undefeated in league play and showcases since April.

Defensively the team had only one slip up over the course of the three games in the second match against FC United.  In both the 1st and 3rd games Taylor Prigge and her defensive line held both opponents to zeros.  Emily Herrmann got the group on the board in the 7th minute of the first game against Houston Dash and Bella Ortega closed the game out when she scored in transition from a corner on a pass from Jada Cross.  Kiki Smith, Morgan Caslin, and Bella Leonard all scored 1 each in the next 3 games to ensure this group had a successful run in Oceanside.

U16 Girls

The 03 DA won 2 out of their 3 games this week at the Summer Showcase.  This group has grinded all year long and come out with some great results through league play and the showcases.  We are excited to have this age group as a stand-alone age next year and competing in the league.

The girls had the opportunity for a revenge match against Rise and rose to the occasion to win the game 4-0 in our first match up.  In the second game, the team again scored 4 goals to set the group up for the third and most challenging matchup of the week against Lonestar from Austin, TX.  Lonestar proved to be a great test and further evidence of the strength of opposition seen in every Development Academy game along the way.  DeAvila, Garcia, Cholowsky, and Bennett accounted for all goals scored over the course of the week.

U17 Girls

The U17 girls also won all 3 games at the Summer Showcase this week and the pride shows in all the players, families, and staff.  The strength of the Showcase schedule was evident from the very first game in a tough battle against United Futbol Academy.  The Royals FC-AZ players were prepared with a solid performance with a 2-0 lead going into the 80th minute and then conceded a PK then held on with determination to finish the game with a 2-1 win.  Rajanah Reed made up 6 of the 10 goals scored over the 3 games, highest goals for of all our teams competing!  Reese Mendenhall, Aubrie Labno, and Margie Detrizio-Parrett all contributed as well.  Kudos to the backline and both GKs in ensuring the group only conceded two goals in the 3 games played.

Special shoutout to Lisa Ljubicic on a great season with this group and thanking her for all her work with the club.  She will certainly be missed as the Utah Royals FC-AZ Development Academy moves into the 2019-20 season.

U19 Girls

The U19 Girls did not attend the Summer Showcase as the U-19 season concludes with their Senior Day.

The Summer Showcase acts as the final competition of the 2018-1019 season.  The girls now take a break through July to rest and recharge to prepare for the 2019-2020 DA season.
