PHOENIX (Thursday, November 11th 2021) -- RSL AZ North 06 Girls Soutar defender Olivia Maldonaldo is this week's Chapman Automotive Group RSL AZ Student-Athlete of the Week.
Olivia, a freshman at Cactus Shadows High School, has a 5.0 GPA and volunteers at her school's Key Club where she has helped serve meal to the homeless. On the field, Olivia has been a three-year captain for the RSL AZ North 06 Girls Soutar team. On top of playing stellar defensivley, Olivia is always supporting her teammates, helping close down training sessions and leads the halftime team talks.
"Olivia is a dream to coach, not only is she a strong fast athlete who is good on the ball and plays out of the back, but she is also exemplary in the way she approaches the game and acts as a teammate," said RSL AZ North 06 Girls head coach Dan Soutar. "Olivia has had to overcome some injuries over the past year and was always there to support her team. Olivia consistently demonstrates the core values of RSL AZ in commitment, honesty, respect, and resilience."
Each week throughout the academic year, RSL AZ will honor a Student-Athlete of the Week who has excelled in the classroom, extracurricular activities, and on the field. In May, all Student-Athlete of the Week winners will be in consideration for the Student-Athlete of the Year award. The Student-Athlete of the Year winner will receive a $500 scholarship that can be used for either soccer or college.
