Lia Gonzales, RSL South 2003/04 Wood, is this week's Chapman Automotive Group RSL AZ Student-Athlete of the Week.

Lia, a 11th-grader, plays centrally for her team which competes in the Arizona Advanced Leagues. She has also competed in the Surf Cup, Blues Cup, and Desert Conference, and helped her team to a final four finish in last year's State Cup.

Off the field, Lia volunteers with the National Junior Honor Society, Red Cross, and Entrepreneurship Club.  Additionally she is an AP Scholar with Distinction and participated with the ASU Barrett Summer Scholar.

"Lia is not only an outstanding soccer player but also an outstanding student and person. Her work ethic on the field and in the classroom is second to none. Lia attends one of the top high schools in the country and has taken 9 AP tests. She participates in numerous clubs on campus and still finds time to help out at many wonderful organizations to give back to her community. Her ability to balance and juggle her school work, clubs, community service, and compete at a high level on the soccer field is unmatched. She has applied to some of the top schools in the country with hopes of advancing her education and continuing her soccer career at schools such as Johns Hopkins, MIT, or Cal Tech," said JC Walsh, RSL South 2003/04 Wood Assistant Coach.

Each week throughout the academic year, RSL AZ will honor a Student-Athlete of the Week who has excelled in the classroom, extracurricular activities, and on the field. In May, all Student-Athlete of the Week winners will be in consideration for the Student-Athlete of the Year award. The Student-Athlete of the Year winner will receive a $500 scholarship that can be used for either soccer or college.

Every coach at RSL AZ is eligible to nominate a player of any age from any team. Please email Garrett Cleverly to nominate a player.
