RSL AZ Curriculum - Week #2 Defending
Recovery
Close DGC & prevent Penetration

Who: Forwards, Midfielders & and Defenders that have joined the attack.

What: If pressure can NOT be applied to regain possession bc either being outnumbered or too far to provide pressure, then prevent opponent from progressing through the Direct Goal Channel.

Where: Mainly in Zone 3 (attacking 3rd) or Zone 2 (middle 3rd).

When: When a defensive line, mainly in Zone 3 or 2, has been broken. Opponent has penetrated defensive block and FWD & MF players must now RECOVER.

Why: To delay opponent’s progress so that ALL players can RECOVER behind the ball and protect the DGC.
