TRANSITION: Attacking -> Defending 1 - Counter Press to Regain Possession
Who: Closest players to the ball have initial responsibility and then the other LAYERS of defenders must determine actions based on initial pressure.
What: Immediate response to loss of possession to apply pressure on the opponent before they have time to establish possession.
Where: Mainly Zone 2 & 3 as there is still time to take risk of applying immediate pressure. In Zone 1(defensive 3rd) main objective should be to protect the goal first.
When: Anticipating and reading cues of the game to determine when a loss of possession might occur and responding. At the very least, as soon as possession is lost.
Why: To dictate the game both with & WITHOUT the ball we must look to disrupt the opponent's possession. In transition is a very important and opportune time to regain possession from the opponent before they organize their attack.
