Collective Defending - Direct Pressure & Set the “Trap”
Who: Front 5/6 players are crucial in dictating and "forcing" opponents into trapping zones while the back 5/4 players are integral in minimizing risk.
What: Eliminating specific areas or individual opponents from the opposition so they are "forced" into trapping zones.
Where: Trapping zones will most likely be in wide areas but could be centrally if your formation outnumbers the opponent's in the midfield.
When: Occurs when our entire team is organized collectively BEHIND the ball and then trap begins being set from the initial pressure from a forward or possibly midfielder.
Why: To best regain possession against an opposition who wants to be possession oriented, we need to work collectively to create optimal moments/situations where we outnumber and minimize options for the opponent.
