Protect the Goal - Close Down Wide & Deny Service
Who: Defenders & MF/Wingers that are tracking/marking runners into our Box.
What: Eliminate space in wide areas to prevent service if possible & central players organized/alert to not allow attacking players space to receive/shoot in our Box.
Where: Zone 1: our defensive 3rd
When: When our opponent has progressed the ball into our defensive 3rd but more specifically when we are unbalanced and they have gotten behind/around our backline.
Why: If we can prevent/block the service all together, terrific but that is difficult so we must be vigilant with our marking in the box to deny goal scoring chances.
