Every month from September to April, RSL AZ will be spotlighting teams throughout the state. Teams will not only be recognized for their performance on the field, but off the field as well.
Below, each coach provided a recap for their teams!
RSL AZ MLS Next 2006/07 Boys
The U19 MLS Next boys team has come into their own this month after an extremely challenging schedule. Winning four games in a row, the U19s highlighted that streak with a 3-2 victory on the road against 1st place, undefeated City SC followed by a massive 3-1 win against LAFC the next week. The boys are coming together as we prepare for the final stretch of MLS Next games in the fall season, before showcasing our talent in front of a plethora of college coaches at MLS Next Fest in early December.
RSL AZ North EA 09 Boys
It is always nice for the players & myself to be acknowledged by our club in this way. The 09 North EA group have in my opinion always tried to played good soccer no matter the outcome of the game. The boys work extremely hard in both games & practice which makes my job all the more pleasurable to coach. The players have been in really good form of late getting some very important results. Ultimately our goal is to make the play offs when the players come back from the high school season.
RSL AZ North 2011 Girls Barrett
2011 Girls Barrett started the season off with a lot of momentum. Making it all the way to the finals in the teams’ first tournament together in Carlsbad, Ca and only losing in PK’s. They have followed that with adding two 1st place finishes in Cactus Kickoff and most recently the Rising Fall classic. This group returned 11 players from the previous season and added some very talented players, so it has been difficult at times to learn to play with new faces and also adjusting to a much more competitive landscape. One of the best aspects of this team is the culture. The girls all understand that games are won and lost as a team and not by individuals. They respect each other and understand that each player brings something truly special to the team. For a team that still is finding its best form, to be finalist in three tournaments is an amazing feat! This team is just getting started and the future is looking brighter with each session and each game!
RSL AZ North 06 Boys Mesanovic
The RSL-AZ North 2006 Mesanovic is doing a great job on and off the field. They showed excellent teamwork, mutual support, cheering and outstanding sportsmanship. They have been very competitive throughout this young season and regardless of the outcome, they continue to look to improve individually and collectively. Besides winning ASL2 while being undefeated, the team showed a never give up attitude, and outplayed many opponents while displaying RSL indirect possession-attacking style of soccer. Several traits stand out from this team, but the main one is that they care for each other and help each other. They have a very positive attitude and look for improvement in every training session and match. This group has a very positive future with great memories that will last a lifetime!
RSL AZ South EA 2011 Boys
The 2011 EA South boys started off this season at Surf Cup in July. Facing adversity and being down in the first three games, they showed their heart and fought back to win a birth in the final then to eventually become Surf Cup Champions. Following Surf Cup, the boys went on to win their next few league games then traveled to Utah for the EA regional event where we faced some very tough competition including last year’s EA National Champions whom we lost to 3-5 in a hard fought match. The boys are now sitting in second place in the EA SW Desert division and working hard to achieve their goal of being EA National Champions in 2025. I am extremely proud and very fortunate to coach this great group of boys.
RSL AZ South DPL 2011 Girls Molina
The 2011G South DPL team has been fantastic to work with this season. These players have grown some amazing friendships and bonds that are hard to break. Their love of the game, hard work and dedication, is creating a team that is on thier way to great success. Challenges have come up, and these girls have worked to overcome any challenges or obstacles in thier way. I cannot wait to see what is in store for their future, on and off the field.
RSL AZ South 2011 Boys Catalanotte
This selection is ultimately a reflection of how well the team has functioned as a unit. It is a testament to the team’s collective effort and shared purpose. It is not just about personal accolades, but about the success of the team as a whole. The recognition offers a moment to celebrate, while also motivating my team to keep improving and striving for even greater success.
RSL AZ West Valley Pre-E64 2014 Boys Martinez
Our boys are working to play a high level of futbol. Every week they show up and give it their all. It is incredible to watch their development. They give us sparks of something trully special. Once the final pieces are all in place, this squad is going to give us lots to talk about.
RSL AZ West Valley E64RL 2012 Girls Georgen
Introducing our newly formed 2012 E64RL Royals, led by Coach Dennis Georgen! This talented group of young ladies has already shown incredible skill with sharp footwork, powerful shots, and a defensive line that’s tough to break. Recently, the Royals came together off the field to volunteer at the local food bank, strengthening their bond through giving back to the community. With silver placements in two tournaments, including a challenging 2011 gold bracket, we’re excited to see what they’ll achieve this season and beyond—both on and off the field!
RSL AZ Southern AZ 2015 Girls Patton
The 2015 G Patton team has been working hard going back to 7v7 summer league and training that started at the end of summer. They have found success as a team on and off the field.
Their measure of success has been learning how to handle the rigors of competitive soccer while also growing in their leadership as teammates. The team lost the final game on penalties early in the season in Flagstaff. Recently the team went undefeated at the Arizona Showcase tournament taking home 1st place. Very proud of this group of players, parents and coaches that are working hard to develop some of the upcoming talent at RSL.
RSL AZ Southern AZ 2011 Boys Merchant
RSL AZ Southern 11B Merchant is in its first few months together, and has already earned strong results, competing in Arizona State League 2 and winning three tournament finals. These players come from all edges of Pima County for the joy of the game and to have fun – which we do – while not shying away from accepting challenges and elevating expectations. Their early success is slowly morphing into a quiet confidence, and that confidence is circling back to more success.RSL AZ Southern’s 2011 age group fields four healthy teams and has been able to train and scrimmage together at various times, pushing each other, learning from each other, and trying to raise the bar physically, mentally, and psychosocially. We are grateful for the coaches, team managers, and parents who have worked together to support and positively impact this group toward continued growth, on and off the field!
RSL AZ Yuma 2014 Boys Heredia
The RSL AZ 2014 Boys Heredia team is pushing for more! In just 5 months together, they have shown commitment and a will to grow. Recently, they won the Arsenal Challenge in Phoenix and took 2nd place at the RSL Showcase in Tucson. The boys are strengthening relationships on and off the field. They are learning new concepts every day and trying to apply them on the field. It’s a long road ahead, but these boys mean business. You will be seeing a lot more of them in future years.
RSL AZ Nogales 2010/2011 Boys Estrada
At the beginning of the season, 2010/11 Boys Estrada Nogales faced a challenging start, struggling to find their rhythm and cohesion on the field. The initial matches reflected a lack of coordination and synergy, resulting in several disappointing losses. However, the team showed resilience, embraced hard work, and committed to improvement, leading to a remarkable turnaround in performance. Since then, they’ve become a formidable opponent and have consistently performed well.
