In late February, Legacy held its Annual General Meeting, which is a time to reflect on the past years achievements, prepare for the upcoming season, and to elect new board leaders.

One election was for a new president and stepping down after four years at the helm is president Dr. Nicholas Markette, who helped turn Legacy into the largest club in Arizona.

When Dr. Markette joined Legacy, the club faced a major wall. On the field, the potential was there. But off the field, financial issues held the club at bay. When Dr. Markette stepped in, his leadership choices and contributions aided by the outstanding members of our Legacy families helped turn this club around.

In four years under Dr. Markette's leadership, registrations have grown from 2,200 to more than 5,000. Employee numbers have grown from 38 to 91, and in 2015 Legacy won more state championships than any other club in Arizona.

The success for Legacy isn't just on the field, as student-athlete college placement in 2015 for soccer programs in higher education increased to 71%, and nearly 100% of club graduates attended college with/without playing soccer. In 2015, student-athletes and families contributed approximately 1,500 hours of community service.

Dr. Markette has also coached numerous Legacy teams over the year and will continue to do so as he looks to end the 2015-16 season on a high note with the 99 Girls Red team.

From all of us in the Legacy family, we'd like to thank Dr. Markette for everything he has done. This club has grown by leaps and bounds and will continue to do so as we are all Building A Legacy.
