January No Bull Student-Athletes of the Month Announced
The January No Bull Student Athlete of the Month Male and Female winners have been announced. Nominations for the February No Bull Student Athlete Male and Female is now open - only RSL AZ coaches can nominate.
A big congrats goes out to Tess Bloxham (Utah Royals FC Arizona 04/05 ECRL) and Michael Franco (RSL AZ West Valley 2011 Boys Chavez) who are the January No Bull Student-Athlete of the Month Female and Male winners.
Tess attends Gilbert Classical Academy High School where she maintains a 4.0 GPA (4.67 weighted) and is a member of the National Honors Society and was a state qualifier for the high jump. She also volunteers at Feed My Starving Children, Saint Mary's Food Bank, and as a rec soccer volunteer coach and referee at the RSL AZ Training Center at Paloma Sports Complex. On the field, she is the captain for her varsity team at school. With RSL AZ, she competed for the RSL AZ South's second team and due to her outstanding performances on the field she started playing for the ECRL team where she earned a starting spot at center back.
"There is not a more deserving student-athlete within RSL AZ. Tess has a team first attitude in training and at games and has moved up two full levels of play within a very short time and has become a key contributor to the success of the 05/04 ECRL team," said Nathan Fairchild, Utah Royals FC Arizona 04/05 ECRL Head Coach.
Michael attends Vistancia Elementary where he is a straight-A student. He helps set up the pre-k rooms, collect items for Toys for Tots, and cans for food drives. At RSL AZ West Valley, he helps collect and organize bags for the homeless which include food, water, and toiletries. On the field, Michael is the goalkeeper for this team where he has turned heads with a tremendous amount of saves every match.
"Michael is the perfect example of a team player and player who is always willing to learn," said Johnny Chavez, RSL AZ West Valley 11 Boys head coach. "At no point is he selfish and he always wants to see the team succeed."
Each month through April, RSL AZ will announce a male and female No Bull Student Athlete of the Month. In May, all monthly winners will be eligible to win a $1,000 scholarship and be named the male or female Student Athlete of the year. Only RSL AZ coaches can nominate a player.
