TACTICAL PRINCIPLE - Protect Space Behind When BC Is Not Framed

TECHNICAL SUB-PRINCIPLES (Coaching Points)

  • Visual Cues: Head up, time/space for the BC, prep touch, body orientation to hit long ball.
  • Technical Execution: Defenders “side on” to be able to rapidly change direction, Turning hips to orientate body properly based on the ball & attacker,  "Track & Bump” runners, constantly
  • Tactical Understanding: Constant movement forward from the Backline to gain ground when there is pressure on the ball or a negative pass & then movement backward to protect the space when there is recognition of the “CUES”.
